Electromagnetic ACROSS

Japanese

What is ACROSS?

ACROSS is the abbreviated name of "Accurately Controlled Routinely Operated Signal Source".

It is a new technology to monitor the underground structure around the clock by means of accurately controlled signals transmitted from a source to multi receivers. In case of elastic wave signals, it is called seismic ACROSS. On the other hand, in case of electromagnetic wave signals, it is called electromagnetic ACROSS.

Observatories of Electromagnetic ACROSS

Shizuoka Univeristy in central Japan takes the lead in the ACROSS monitoring. Our observatories for earth currents and geomagnetic fields can be used as receivers of electromagnetic ACROSS.

There are two electromagnetic transmitters at Shizuoka University and JAEA Tono Geoscience Center in central Japan. Electromagnetic signals pass through the fault zone of "Tokai Earthquake (expected to occur in the near future)" and are then received at our observatories. The signals received must include information on the zone. Therefore, we can always directly monitor the status of the zone.
